The last eight of the Betfred Challenge Cup will be made up of entirely Betfred Super League teams, following the Fourth Round results this weekend.
Wakefield Trinity ensured their name would be in the hat for the quarter finals, after they beat Leeds Rhinos in a pulsating West Yorkshire Derby on Friday Night.
Following a delay caused by a power failure at the DIY Kitchens Stadium just six minutes into the match, Trinity took the lead through Harvey Smith.
It didn’t take long for the Rhinos to respond, however, as Maika Sivo continued his fine try-scoring form with a double, and skipper Ash Handley crossed the whitewash.
As the half-time hooter sounded, Oli Pratt hit back for the hosts, following a perfectly timed kick assist from Jack Sinfield against his former side, which reduced the deficit to two points.
The second half then went mostly the way of Wakefield, as Matty Storton and Ky Rodwell both crashed over to seal a 24-14 victory, and send the home side into the quarters for a second year running.
Leeds have now failed to reach the last eight since winning the competition in 2020.
Also on Friday, record 21-time Challenge Cup winners Wigan Warriors cruised into the quarter finals with a 30-6 win over Bradford Bulls.
Luke Thompson, Zach Eckersley, Liam Marshall, Adam Keighran and debutant Dayon Sambou were try scorers at The Brick Community Stadium, with the Bulls’ only reply coming from Ethan Ryan.
Current holders Hull KR took one step closer to retaining the trophy with a ruthless 52-12 victory against an injury-ravaged Huddersfield Giants.
The Robins ran in nine tries in front of The Sportsman cameras on Saturday, with magic Mikey Lewis leading the way with two sensational scores.
St Helens, who last won the Challenge Cup back in 2021, are in the last eight after comfortably beating Castleford Tigers, 32-8.
The Saints built up a 16-0 lead at the OneBore Stadium through Daryl Clark, Lewis Murphy and Mark Percival. And three more tries came in the second half from the Red V’s Tristan Sailor, Agnatius Paasi and Kyle Feldt.
2023 winners Leigh Leopards booked their place in the next round after overcoming Hull FC, 16-6.
Elsewhere, there were some heavy scorelines as Warrington Wolves entertained Goole Vikings, and ran 13 tries past their Betfred Championship opponents (78-10). Will the Wolves reach Wembley for a third consecutive year?
Catalans Dragons were as equally convincing and scored 58 unanswered points against Oldham, which included a hat-trick from youngster Lenny Marc, whilst York Knights are in the quarters for the first time since 2023 after proving too strong for Keighley Cougars (56-10).
